4 Phoenix-area road projects to avoid this weekend
The Arizona Department of Transportation has four freeway construction projects scheduled for this weekend.
Motorists will want to make note of several freeway closures that have the potential to snarl traffic and add time to travel plans. This weekend’s projects include closures of Loop 202 (Red Mountain) in the southeast Valley and Grand Avenue (U.S. 60) in the West Valley.
Loop 202 (Red Mountain)/ Gilbert and McDowell roads
CLOSURE: Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed between Gilbert and McDowell roads (southeast of Power Road) from 3 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 15) for permanent lane striping as part of widening project. All eastbound Loop 202 on-ramps between Gilbert and Power roads closed.
DETOUR: Consider using eastbound U.S. 60 (Superstition Freeway) as an alternate freeway route. Local traffic will detour along eastbound McDowell Road.

CLOSURE: Grand Avenue (U.S. 60) closed in both directions between Loop 303 and R.H. Johnson Boulevard in Surprise from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Nov. 16) for bridge construction.
