Using fine art aerial photographs taken around the globe, Canadian artist Edward Burtynsky raises questions about humanity’s relationship to water.

Forty of his large-scale color prints are part of an exhibition titled “Water,” which you can see between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, July 22, at the Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 North Central Avenue.

The exhibition was organized by the New Orleans Museum of Art, in the city that suffered devastating losses caused by flooding during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Some photographs depict untainted wilderness, and others the impact of man’s incursions upon nature. One juxtaposes irrigated yards and swimming pools of Scottsdale tract homes with dry dirt on an adjacent Indian reservation.

The exhibition, which may change your views on Salt River tubing or buying jumbo packs of bottled water, continues through Sunday, September 18. It’s free with admission, which is $18 for adults. Visit www.phxart.org.
