Phoenix Road projects to Avoid

4 Phoenix-area road projects to avoid this weekend

The Arizona Department of Transportation has four freeway construction projects scheduled for this weekend.

Motorists will want to make note of several freeway closures that have the potential to snarl traffic and add time to travel plans. This weekend’s projects include closures of Loop 202 (Red Mountain) in the southeast Valley and Grand Avenue (U.S. 60) in the West Valley.

Loop 202 (Red Mountain)/ Gilbert and McDowell roads

CLOSURE: Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed between Gilbert and McDowell roads (southeast of Power Road) from 3 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 15) for permanent lane striping as part of widening project. All eastbound Loop 202 on-ramps between Gilbert and Power roads closed.

DETOUR: Consider using eastbound U.S. 60 (Superstition Freeway) as an alternate freeway route. Local traffic will detour along eastbound McDowell Road.

Grand Avenue (U.S. 60)/ Loop 303 and R.H. Johnson Boulevard

CLOSURE: Grand Avenue (U.S. 60) closed in both directions between Loop 303 and R.H. Johnson Boulevard in Surprise from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Nov. 16) for bridge construction.

DETOUR: Travelers, including NASCAR race fans, should allow extra travel time. Traffic will detour on Loop 303 and Bell Road. Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers will be on site to monitor traffic signal timing at Loop 303 and Grand Avenue.

Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard/ Loop 101

CLOSURE: Westbound Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard right turn lane to northbound Loop 101 on-ramp and frontage road closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 15) for maintenance work.

DETOUR: Westbound Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard traffic can travel west to northbound Hayden Road to connect with Loop 101.

Loop 101/ State Route 51

RESTRICTION: Eastbound Loop 101 narrowed to two lanes overnight near State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (Nov. 16) for bridge construction.
